How I met Tim and how that led to our dorm family

I met Tim because we had the same chemistry lecture and lab fall quarter of freshman year. And I remember that when I arrived in front of the lab classroom that first Wednesday morning with a huge smile on his face I can remember the first thing he said to me, "You look really familiar.... Hi, I'm Timothy!" He had a paper and he was asking for emails or contacts of some sort with people in his classes. When he found out that I lived in the dorms as well we started eating breakfast together before this 8am lab. I remember at this point that he added me on Facebook as soon as he could find me. And I started to get to know him over the quarter because he was very easy to get along with, but I figured it was like a lot of the other people I had met in my classes-- that I would likely not see him much now that we didn't have class together. And for the most part that was true. Then Spring Quarter freshman year we met again in the 3rd quarter of chemistry. Immediately we hit it off again. We started clicking with our interests and finding out our shared nerdiness. And we started talking about Dungeons & Dragons and we even tried to join/start a group to play. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to commit to a group and that plan sort of fizzled. At some point that quarter when he found out that I was still trying to figure out where to live for housing the next year he said to me, "Me some buddies are living in Encinitas second floor. You should join us!" I didn't know any one else living in any of the campus housing so it seemed absolutely perfect. And it really was. That next year in Encinitas there were several people that he already knew to start our group. But because of Tim's outgoing spirit our group quickly grew and we constantly found ourselves with new faces. He pulled people in and allowed me to meet some of my closest friends. People that have become a family in the short amount of time I've known them. At some point a joke developed that TIm was actually an imaginary friend of mine. When the joke persisted I made a realization: if Tim is my imaginary friend and I met everyone through Tim, then I only have imaginary friends. I shared this realization with everyone in the group and we went through it and it absolutely held true for all of my dorm friends. I met everyone because of Tim and I am so grateful that I had that opportunity because these are some of the best people that I've known. And we've created a family of friends and Tim is truly the heart of that family. --Elle Clarke
